The challenge
Lisbon is one of the European capitals with the lowest tree coverage and one of the most exposed territories in Portugal to the impacts of climate change. The city faces urban heat islands with temperature differences reaching 11 °C, caused by dense urban structures and low-reflectivity materials that retain heat and reduce thermal comfort, compromising public health and quality of life.
The initiative
To address this urgent reality, hori-zonte, a sustainability-driven architecture office, is launching the workshop “ReThink Lisbon: Climate & Regeneration Proposal 2030”, in collaboration with Archi Summit 2025.
A collaborative approach to transformation
This initiative brings together a working group of experts from diverse disciplines, including architecture, urbanism, landscape design, climate science, public health, and sustainability, to collaboratively develop actionable urban proposals for mitigating the effects of global warming in Lisbon.

How it
works
The half-day session will be immersive and multidisciplinary. Participants will:
- Diagnose Lisbon’s key urban and environmental challenges.
- Identify critical zones and potential areas of intervention.
- Build a shared technical and strategic proposal for a more sustainable, livable, and climate-resilient city.
The final document will serve as a technical-scientific contribution and may guide future urban policies, planning frameworks, and public interventions.

The final proposals will be presented publicly at 2:30 PM on July 11, the final day of Archi Summit 2025, at the Convento do Beato.

About hori-zonte
hori-zonte is a Porto-based architecture office working at the intersection of sustainability, housing, public space and urban design.
A finalist in the 2025 Arch Daily Building of the Year Awards, the studio combines architectural practice with research and innovation, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and developing regenerative strategies for the built environment.
